FULL DESCRIPTION
This set of 6 auger bits are the best that we have ever offered or tested and are perfect for quickly and accurately drilling deep holes through thicker stock. They can be used in a drill press or electric hand drill and are designed to be used on softwoods and hardwoods. The precise cutting geometry, a single cutting spur on the perimeter and a chisel like main cutter ensures accurate, clean holes while minimizing tearout on entry and exit of the hole. The cutting spur sits fractionally above the main cutter to ensure the bit enters the wood cleanly without tearing the wood fibres, the main cutter then follows to remove the material quickly to avoid the build-up of heat. The bits feature a threaded centre point which pulls the bit through the wood meaning minimal force is needed for the bit to work at full capacity. The deep flute allows fast chip removal to prevent clogging when drilling deeper holes.

The auger bits are made from high carbon steel which has been hardened to ensure a long service life and give the bits impressive cutting properties when compared to traditional steel auger bits. The bits have been fully ground to give precise concentricity to ensure a highly accurate hole. A hexagonal shaft ensures a secure hold that will not slip inside the chuck during use. Auger bits are normally used at low speeds between 700 and 2000rpm to prevent the wood from scorching. The speed depends on size, with the larger diameter bits being used at lower speeds. These bits are certified to ensure the dimensional accuracy of the hole and the set contains 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm and 26mm bits. The overall length of the bits is 230mm with a flute length of 170mm. ©

Comparable with the better brands available, the quality of these bits is really good. When drilling holes the bits never clog which I always find annoying. Ordered the set because there will always be a need for different sizes at some point. Would recommend.

When using a pillar drill I prefer to use Forster bits for a nice clean finish. I though that at the price offered I'd chance it with a set of augers for when I'm working on larger timbers which are difficult if not impossible to get under a pillar drill. To date I've only done some trial holes but have been very impressed. Freehand I've found that both corded and cordless drills have enough torque to deal with them. In fact I was expecting my 18 volt Makita cordless drill to struggle with the largest auger but it managed it with ease.
