This box set of 15 is our most popular set of forstner bits and includes 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 16mm, 18mm, 20mm, 22mm, 25mm, 26mm, 28mm, 30mm, 35mm, 40mm, 45mm, 50mm diameter bits, each with an overall length of 90mm and a 10mm round shank. These forstner bits are made from a special grade of high carbon steel which is extremely hard wearing and retains its hardness over prolonged use, resulting in a bit that will not deform under heat and which will always keep the same cutting geometry, over its lifetime.

The rim of the forstner bit is a fraction of a millimetre higher than the chippers which results in the bit entering the wood cleanly, prior to the chippers clearing the wood. The double-chip channels means swarf is quickly cleared, minimising rim heat, allowing for clean cut, flat bottom holes in hard, soft and exotic woods. The teeth have a skewed geometry to ensure minimal fibre pull and tearing of the wood. The bits are back tapered from the cutting edge to reduce friction and prevent binding and have been fully ground to give precise concentricity to ensure a highly accurate hole. Decent!

I haven't had these for very long but they seem well made, they are nicely ground and they cut cleanly in hard and soft woods. They do a good job in end grain too. We will have to see how long they last.

Forstner bits

Finally took the plunge and invested in a decent set of forstner bits (15) piece set reduced to £100 so happy Christmas me!! If you can’t treat yourself then who can you treat. They drill really nice , only tried on soft wood so far but I’m sure they’ll perform as good as they look.

No comparison

I finally bit the bullet & bought this set to replace my inexpensive Forstner bits.
Arrived today & clearly comments about the packaging have been addressed, as each bit was in its allotted slot. Each one was also in an individual gripseal bag & the cutting head covered in a reusable HDPE protector.
I've only tried out the 25mm in a direct comparison with my old one & what a difference.
Cuts twice as fast, with clean, sharp edges & no scorching whatsoever.
I'm impressed & have no doubt the others will perform as well.
