This set contains four plug & tenon cutters and four perfectly matching forstner bits in 8mm, 10mm, 12mm and 15mm. Designed for use in a drill press, they will drill flawless holes and produce matching tenons and plugs in both hard and softwoods.

The plug and tenon cutters are manufactured from a special grade of high carbon steel which is extremely hard wearing and retains its hardness over prolonged use, resulting in a cutter that will not deform under heat and which will always keep the same cutting geometry, over its lifetime. The rim of the cutter finely scores the inner circumference of the hole, prior to five razor sharp cutting spurs removing the stock. This results in minimal fibre pull and tearing of the wood leaving extremely clean holes and plugs. They have an overall length of 140mm with a total available depth of cut of 80mm and 13mm round shanks

The forstner sawtooth bits are made from a special grade of high carbon steel which is extremely hard wearing and retains its hardness over prolonged use. The rim of the forstner bit is a fraction of a millimetre higher than the chippers which results in the bit entering the wood cleanly, prior to the chippers clearing the wood. The double-chip channels means swarf is quickly cleared, minimising rim heat, allowing for clean cut, flat bottom holes in hard, soft and exotic woods. The teeth have a skewed geometry to ensure minimal fibre pull and tearing of the wood. The bits are back tapered from the cutting edge to reduce friction and prevent binding and have been fully ground to give precise concentricity to ensure a highly accurate hole. The bits have an overall length of 90mm, with 10mm round shanks and are supplied in a wood box. ©

Having recently bought many items from Rutlands and being very impressed with the products, i had no hesitation in purchasing the plug cutter and forstner bit set.After being slightly confused by the misleading pictures of completely different saw tooth forstner bits with the set, i continued to purchase.The set arrived promptly, well packaged. But the set did not contain any forstner bits like in the add. It did contain a fine set of well machined plug cutters, but the quality of the machining on the non saw tooth forstner bits was very poor and definitely not worth the money. To be honest i would compare them to something i would pick up from a market stall for a fiver.I disappointedly sent them straight back for a full refund (less postage both ways) which was prompt.I shall continue to use Rutlands as they do sell many great products, but would not in future trust the quality of there drill bits etc. A shame.And why cant Rutlands give free postage over a certain spend, say £50 like many other companies, another thing which sticks in my throat with every purchase.Would i recommend Rutlands, yes, with no hesitation, but would be more cautious in future.

This is the perfect kit. It has all the most important cutters you could ever need. I've only used them on soft woods so far, but they are well crafted and come in a wooden box for safe keeping.
