The Rutlands® PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) offers woodworkers high levels of protection against multiple hazards. It combines TH3 respiratory protection with eye, face and head protection. A powerful, lightweight, battery powered fan draws air through two pre-filters coupled with a high capacity HEPA filter and then blows clean air down into the air fed mask over the user's face. The fan sends up to 200 litres of clean filtered air per minute and has a positive pressure system allowing the user to breathe as normal without the face shield misting. On a single battery charge it will deliver clean filtered air for up to 6 hours .
The digital control pad allows you to pre-select one of the two air flow rates and features a battery level indicator. The air flow alarm activates audibly and by vibration when the diagnostic system detects changes in the battery or filter conditions, informing the operator of a reduction in air flow. Extremely comfortable to wear the fabric waist belt is padded for optimal fit and weight distribution. The helmet is balanced, weighs less than 0.5kg and will accommodate users with spectacles and facial hair without any loss in protection, while providing a clear wide field of vision. The polycarbonate visor has an anti-scratch coating and is hinged to raise or lower. The breathing tube has a flexible helix that adjusts to the appropriate length for the individual user and features two swivel joint connectors.
The PAPR is supplied with helmet and visor, flexible breathing tube, blower unit with filtration system, HEPA filter, two pre-filters, belt assembly, 3Ah Li-Ion battery and charger, air flow test kit and a carry bag. Purchased the respirator when on discount and I have not been disappointed so far. I work mainly with Ply but recently i have been working with a lot of MDF and the dust generated is a nightmare even with shop vacs and extractors. I was sick of having to keep a mask on for an hour after cutting/sanding until the particles in the air were removed but this is so easy to wear it is no hassle at all. Plus i get to keep my glasses on which is a bonus compared to some half face or full face masks.
Started to worry about my lungs so bought this. 3 year Guaruntee, filters out the smallest particles…bit of a no brainer. Having used it a couple of times more it seems to work well and keeps all the dust out with a nice cool breeze across the face, good visibility and not too noisy. The only minor niggle is it doesn’t take much to undo the belt for the motor. But hey, it does what it says on the tin.
After developing a cough due to sanding. I bought this mask after reading the reviews. Only used it a few times, but it has made a big difference. Easy to wear. Not heavy. I was a bit worried wearing glasses would be an issue. But it hasn't been. Also it's saved my face. When a bowl came out of the cole jaws and hit the visor . So for that alone it gets 5 stars . Definitely would recommend it.
I bought this for working on my lathe and wood turning. I have the JSP power-capwhich is good but I was getting wood smells in the mask. I realised it was only rated to TH1P, this is why I bought the Rutlands power filter because it’s rated to TH3P and I can really tell the difference. It’s lighter on my head/neck as the filter is around my waist, meaning I can wear it for longer periods, it’s quieter and the vision is better. A negative is that I can’t wear my ear defenders, but I started using noise cancelling ear buds and have found that are better than the ear defenders. All in all this product is very good and well worth the money if you are serious about your health when woodworking and it never steams up.
This is a light to wear unit. It is effective in stopping dust in my eyes and mouth and does not steam up my glasses.
